President’s Welcome

Welcome to the official website of Atalanta’s, Oxford University’s society for elite sportswomen.

Atalanta’s was founded in 1992 with the aim of bringing together Oxford’s leading sportswomen and of promoting women’s sport both within and outside of the university.

To ensure this, we host various social events each term, such as careers nights in collaboration with our sponsors and private drinks evenings for members. This academic year is particularly special, seeing twenty years since Atalanta’s was founded. We intend to celebrate in style along with our alumni and founding members- recognising the progress that has been made in women’s sport in Oxford, but also marking how much further we have to go.

This 20th year also sees the founding of a Speaker Series featuring prominent women in sport, to which all members are welcome. For a less informal environment, there is the opportunity to meet in Vincent’s Club for lunch on Saturdays, which we warmly encourage members to attend, and on crew dates organised by our Social Secretary!

Membership of Atalanta’s allows you not only to enjoy our social events, but also to access to a wider network of alumni through both Vincent’s and Atalanta’s. The alumni network is extremely active in providing opportunities for past members to maintain contact both with each other and with Atalanta’s in Oxford- the annual Christmas dinner and the V&A Autumn cocktails are two examples which have proved hugely successful, allowing our current members to socialise with their predecessors.

As a society set up and run by sportswomen, Atalanta’s seeks to provide support for talented individuals at Oxford and to recognise their success. To this end, we have established the Atalanta’s Teammate of the Year Award, presented at the annual Sports Federation Ball. Atalanta’s also awards grants at the end of Trinity term in collaboration with our Trustees, for which any Oxford sportswoman is eligible.

On this website you will find all the information you need regarding our events and women’s sport in Oxford, including a timetable of upcoming events, how to join Atalanta’s and links to female sport’s clubs, stash and match fixtures. If you need any more information, please do not hesitate to contact me at president[at]atalantas.org.
